The Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access) initiative aims to improve outcomes for people with a diagnosed mental disorder through evidence-based treatment. Under this initiative, Medicare benefits are available to eligible patients for selected mental health services provided by general practitioners (GP), psychiatrists, psychologists, eligible social workers, and occupational therapists.
Medicare benefits are available for up to 10 individual and 10 group mental health services per calendar year to consumers who are referred by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.
Step 1: Visit your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician to assess your eligibility. If deemed eligible, you will receive a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) for an initial treatment course of up to six sessions. Please bring a copy of your MHTP along to your first session.
Step 2: Depending on your health care needs you can return to your referrer to discuss a new referral for up to an additional four sessions for the calendar year. Prior to this appointment, Craig will send written correspondence to your referrer.
Additional Information: A MHTP does not expire, and a referral is valid until the referred number of sessions have been completed, even if you choose to change your allied mental health provider or service.
Yes! You can attend as a private client. You may also be eligible to claim a rebate via your private health insurance.
I currently see NDIS clients with self-managed NDIS plans.
I offer face-to-face sessions in Camberwell as well as via telehealth sessions, Tuesdays through to Fridays. Please see contact page for current hours.
Payment is required on the day of appointments. Credit card payments are accepted unless the payment is being made by a third party (e.g. TAC), in which case bank details will be provided. Cheques and cash are not accepted forms of payment.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you will need to provide at least 48 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled within 48 hours may incur a 50% + GST cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a 100% cancellation + GST fee.
A cancellation policy is in place to maximise accessibility of sessions for all clients. By providing sufficient notice of cancellations, the session can promptly be offered to another client on my waitlist.
I am unable to provide crisis support.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people to identify and change unhelpful ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. This therapeutic modality has been thoroughly tested, and research/studies show that CBT:
CBT is based on core principles:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps people process traumatic memories and feelings. Although relatively new compared to many other types of psychological treatment, there is a good amount of research which shows its effectiveness for treatment for trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
EMDR helps you access memories and feelings associated with a traumatic event so that you can reprocess them in an adaptive way that leads to healing. You will no longer feel like you are reliving the event, and the related memories, thoughts and feelings will be less distressing and more manageable.
One of the key techniques used in EMDR is bilateral stimulation. During EMDR you focus on a traumatic memory, associated feelings and thoughts while doing bilateral stimulation. The most common form of bilateral stimulation is being guided to move your eyes from side to side. It can also be achieved by tapping your body in different ways.
