Being a bloke in this day and age can be challenging. Men's mental health is a growing concern in Australia and mental health issues can affect boys and men in many ways, including depression, anxiety, and substance use problems.
Social constructs can make it hard for boys and men to engage in therapy though. From a young age, boys may be taught that they need to be strong and independent, that they should keep their emotions and thoughts to themselves, and that expressing emotions is a sign of weakness. For all of the above and other reasons, the idea of therapy may be a daunting and anxiety provoking process for boys and men. This is where an ability to connect with and develop the type of relationship that keeps blokes engaged in therapy becomes even more important.
This is something that I pride myself on. To be able to connect with blokes of all ages and develop the type of relationship where they feel safe and empowered to be themselves. A space to tell their story, learn about their strengths, develop new ones and use these to more comfortably address their own unique challenges.
I fish, love cars, music, science-fiction movies, footy, gym, bbqs, outdoors, swimming, comic books and superheroes. I have also worked in numerous spaces, including hospitality, trades, health support, and agile and high pressure commissioning environments. I believe in positive masculinity, and I think there is a good chance that I can connect with you, your son or loved one.
I have experience working with blokes from age 5 to 75, on a range of issues including:
If you are ready to take that first step or to help a child take that step, please reach out. It would be great to connect and work together on the next chapter of that story.
